A campaign among the clergy against Ayatollah Khamenei and the “coup government” is gathering pace. The reformist mowjcamp website said a “group of senior religious scholars” visited Khamenei a few days before Ahmadinejad’s endorsement ceremony and strongly criticized the role of his son Mojtaba. The report says Khamenei reacted harshly and denied his son’s “involvement in the coup”. Mowjcamp says efforts are continuing among the clergy in Qom to confront the administration.

President Assad of Syria arrived in Tehran to covey personally his congratulations to President Ahmadinejad on his reelection. Reports suggested he stated Iran and Syria should not deviate from their policy of cooperation, while Iran denied Assad would apply any pressure over the bailed French academic Clotilde Reiss. link
