A campaign among the clergy against Ayatollah Khamenei  and the “coup government” is gathering pace. The reformist mowjcamp website said a “group of senior religious scholars” visited Khamenei  a few days before Ahmadinejad’s endorsement ceremony  and strongly criticized the role of his son Mojtaba. The report says Khamenei reacted harshly and denied his son’s “involvement in the coup”.  Mowjcamp says efforts are continuing among the clergy in Qom to confront the administration.

Mehdi Karroubi has written to Ali Larijani, the Majlis speaker, asking for the opportunity to present evidence of rape in Iranian jails to top officials, including the President. link

— Grand Ayatollah Bayat-Zanjani has issued a new statement  lauding  Karoubi’s courage in persisting with his allegations.

The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran has voiced serious concern for Shapour Kazemi, Mir-Hossein Moussavi’s brother-in law, arrested shortly after the June 12 elections and not heard of since. link

President Ahmadinejad revealed more of his cabinet picks, including oil and justice. link

President Assad of Syria arrived in Tehran to covey personally his congratulations to President Ahmadinejad on his reelection. Reports suggested he stated Iran and Syria should not deviate from their policy of cooperation,  while Iran denied Assad would apply any pressure over the bailed French academic Clotilde Reiss. link
